Tiger Woods mourns the loss of his mother Kultida at 80

Kultida Woods, the influential mother of renowned golfer Tiger Woods, has died at the age of 80.

According to ESPN, Kultida passed away Tuesday, leaving behind a legacy marked deeply in her son's storied career.

Born in Thailand, Kultida worked for the U.S. Army in Bangkok during the 1960s. It was here she met Earl Woods, an officer in the U.S. Army Special Forces. The couple married in New York in 1968 after moving to the United States, eventually settling in Cypress, California.

The Early Years of Kultida Woods

Kultida and Earl Woods' union lasted 37 years, ending with Earl's death in 2006. Together, they welcomed their son Tiger in 1975, who would go on to become one of the greatest golfers in history. Kultida's role was crucial, providing stability and instilling values that Tiger carried throughout his life and career.

Recognized as a "force of nature" by her son, she recently attended Tiger’s TGL match in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This appearance highlighted her ongoing support, even as her health may have been declining.

The impactful statement released by Tiger on the social media platform X emphasized the deep bond and the foundational support Kultida provided throughout his life. He described her spirit as "undeniable" and highlighted her role as his greatest supporter.

Influence on Tiger's Career

Kultida was not only a pivotal figure at home but also in Tiger's public golfing image. She inspired the tradition of wearing red on Sundays, a color Tiger associated with strength and victory, attributing this choice to his mother’s belief in red as his "power color."

This specific tradition began with her suggestion during his junior golf days, helping to establish what would become a hallmark of his tournament attire. Tiger explained how this carried over to his time at Stanford University and throughout his professional career.

During his acceptance of the Bob Jones Award in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Tiger publicly acknowledged his mother’s influence, dubbing her his stabilizing force and a significant reason for his achievements.

Kultida Woods' Lasting Impact

While Earl Woods was often credited with influencing Tiger’s career, especially during travel, Tiger has consistently highlighted his mother’s equal importance. He emphasized her presence throughout his upbringing and her support during both successful and challenging times.

One poignant example of her support was during Tiger's last major championship win at the 2019 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club. Notably, her presence at the event symbolized her unwavering support throughout his career.

Moreover, her love and dedication extended beyond Tiger. In fact, she deeply cherished her role as a grandmother to his children, Sam and Charlie. Consequently, her devotion to her family and grandchildren was frequently echoed in Tiger's statements and interviews.

Kultida’s Endearing Personal Traits

The heartfelt reminiscences shared by Tiger revealed Kultida’s lighter side, remembering her quick wit and laughter. These personal anecdotes served to humanize the profound figure behind the public persona, showing her as a loved and cherished individual beyond her role as Tiger Woods' mother.

Tiger’s tribute on social media not only celebrated her life but also expressed gratitude towards those offering support during this difficult period. His words, "Love you, Mom," concluded a deeply emotional acknowledgment of her profound impact on his life.

Thus, Kultida Woods enshrined her legacy not only in her son's monumental career but also in the personal victories and cherished family moments they shared along the way. Her influence stretches beyond the green, residing in the hearts of those she inspired and loved.
