Nurse accused of deceiving friend in fatal insurance fraud scheme

In a chilling turn of events, a registered nurse has been arrested for the murder of her friend under the guise of helping her end her life due to a falsified terminal illness.

According to the New York Post, Meggan Randall Sundwall allegedly administered a lethal injection to Kacee Lyn Terry, intending to claim an alleged $1.5 million life insurance payout.

The disturbing tale began to unfold during the summer when 47-year-old Meggan Randall Sundwall injected 38-year-old Kacee Lyn Terry, with a fatal dose of insulin. Sundwall, a nurse by profession, had convinced Terry that she was suffering from terminal cancer.

Investigators later discovered extensive communications between the two, including over 28,000 text messages starting in December 2019. These messages revealed that Sundwall discussed various methods of assisted suicide with Terry, often intertwining discussions about financial benefits stemming from Terry's life insurance.

Motivated by Financial Despair: A Deep Dive into the Text Messages

One revealing text from Sundwall to Terry read, "Do you want to take some promethazine when I get there so that you are asleep when this is happening?" This message, later discovered by police, exemplified the deceptive comfort Sundwall offered her friend.

Further scrutiny of the messages unearthed Sundwall's dire financial situation. She had conveyed to Terry that becoming the beneficiary of her life insurance would solve her financial woes, thus planting the seed for the alleged murder plot.

Yet, it remains unknown if Terry secured a life insurance policy naming Sundwall as the beneficiary. This critical detail adds a layer of mystery and motive to the investigation.

Tragic Day: The Morning of August 12

On August 12, Sundwall administered promethazine to Terry in an effort to render her unconscious during the procedure. Within hours, Terry's uncle found her unresponsive at her residence, struggling for breath while alone with Sundwall shortly before becoming incapacitated.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and discovered a diabetic needle, despite Terry not being diabetic. At the hospital, doctors measured her blood sugar level at a mere 14, indicating a life-threatening scenario, as levels below 40 are already considered dangerous.

Sundwall claimed that Terry had signed a do-not-resuscitate order and preferred to avoid hospitalization. Nonetheless, Terry succumbed to her condition on August 15, without any real evidence of her alleged terminal illness or a lawful DNR order.

The Investigation Unfolds: A Search for Truth and Justice

The medical examination disclosed that Terry had no signs of cancer or other terminal illnesses. Additionally, investigators found no DNR order filed under her name, bringing Sundwall's statements into question.

The autopsy results specified the cause of death as an overdose likely caused by exogenous insulin, together with promethazine and other drugs. After Terry’s death, Sundwall reportedly deleted over 900 text messages from her phone and frantically searched for the life insurance policy.

This subsequent behavior raised further suspicions, leading to Sundwall's arrest. She is currently facing charges of first-degree aggravated murder and third-degree obstruction of justice.

Community and Family in Shock: Reacting to the Heinous Act

The revelation of such calculated deceit has devastated the local community and Terry's family. A friend who once trusted her life to another now finds herself trapped in a deadly scheme disguised as compassionate aid.

The police continue to investigate, uncovering the deep layers of deceit that tainted what seemed to be a trusting relationship. They have pledged to deliver thorough justice for Kacee Lyn Terry and her grieving family.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of deception, particularly when life and death are at stake. Sundwall’s actions, if proven in court, could be an egregious example of betrayal by a trusted healthcare professional.
