Former MLB star Johnny Damon recently opened up about the personal and professional consequences of his friendship with Donald Trump.
In an exclusive interview, Damon shared his experiences and the negative reactions they sparked, the New York Post reported.
Johnny Damon’s connection with Donald Trump began during his high-profile transition from the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees in December 2005. Shortly after Damon joined the Yankees, Trump introduced him to the billionaire, marking the start of their long-standing relationship. Trump’s first gesture of friendship involved inviting Damon to play golf at Mar-a-Lago, alongside former New York Mets captain David Wright.
To further cement their friendship, Trump suggested Damon move into one of his buildings when Damon relocated to New York. However, Damon had already arranged to live in the Bloomberg Building. This early phase of their friendship showcased Trump’s willingness to integrate Damon into his circle and offer guidance during his transition to New York.
Damon's relationship with Trump also had its share of direct professional involvement. In 2014, Damon appeared on the seventh season of "Celebrity Apprentice," a reality show hosted by Trump. Meanwhile, his wife faced more severe charges including battery on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. "Unfortunately, whenever you say you're friends with Donald Trump, we have a lot of people who just cannot understand that," Damon stated. "We can't see anything positive that they've done, and hopefully, Donald Trump doesn't get any backlash for anything he's doing because he's already done more than what President Biden has done in his four years and Trump's not even in office right now," he explained. And I support my friends through the thick and thin, the good and the bad, so that's who I am and that's who I'm going to continue to be," he added.
