Authorities found Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old reporter for KGKC Telemundo Kansas City, dead on Wednesday at 4 pm in his room at the Comfort Suites in Kenner, Louisiana. The authorities initiated a welfare check when Manzano missed a morning assignment, and a hotel manager made the grim discovery.
Colbert was last seen with Manzano as they entered his hotel room around 4 am that day. Surveillance footage captured her leaving shortly after, alone. By Thursday night, authorities arrested her for using Manzano’s credit cards at various locations.
Colbert's History of Targeting Men
The native of New Orleans had a documented history of criminal behavior dating back to 2012, primarily involving the drugging and robbing of men she encountered in nightlife settings. Her tactics often involved seducing young men wearing luxury items like Rolex watches, which she would then steal.
Her first known crime occurred in 2012 when she robbed a tourist in New Orleans. She was later convicted and sentenced to probation after repeated court no-shows. This pattern of petty and increasingly bold thefts continued over the years, across various states.
In 2014, Colbert escalated her efforts by talking her way into a tourist’s hotel room in New Orleans, where she left with $100 cash, his credit cards, and a $4,000 Rolex watch after the victim fell asleep.
Pattern of Escalation in Criminal Activities
By 2016, Colbert’s methods had become more daring; she was accompanied by accomplices who helped distract her victims. Colbert and her associates propositioned a man at a bar on Bourbon Street, resulting in him losing his phone, credit cards, and a Rolex watch.
The consequences of her actions grew more severe over time, leading to her arrest in multiple instances. Despite repeated arrests, Colbert continued her criminal activities, each time finding new victims and using new tactics to defraud them.
Her most recent known crime before the incident with Manzano involved a man in Las Vegas whom she and an accomplice drugged and robbed in 2022 after promising an encounter at the Wynn Casino. The man woke missing significant valuables and cash.
Alarming Consistency in Colbert's Method
Colbert's method involved drugging her victims or creating a distraction to steal their valuables. This pattern was consistent in almost every documented case, from New Orleans to Las Vegas, leading to her nickname, 'Bourbon Street Hustler.'
Notably, her tactics led to an increase in the severity of charges over time, culminating in allegations of violent crimes including second-degree battery and witness intimidation during an encounter in which she and her accomplices attacked a store manager who had recognized her from a wanted poster.
Despite her notorious track record, repeated incarcerations, and numerous court appearances, Colbert has repeatedly managed to find and exploit loopholes in the legal system, contributing to her prolonged criminal career.
Lasting Impact on Victims and Communities
Colbert's criminal activities have left a trail of victims across several states, with stolen amounts totaling tens of thousands of dollars in cash and valuables. Her consistent targeting of individuals in nightlife settings has also led to a sense of insecurity among both tourists and locals in those areas.
The death of Adan Manzano is currently under investigation, with toxicology reports pending. Meanwhile, authorities have charged Colbert with credit card fraud and property crimes in connection with Manzano's death, but they have not directly charged her with causing his death.
With numerous victims over more than a decade, Danette Colbert's criminal activities have not only affected those directly targeted but have also had a broader impact on community safety and trust in areas frequented by both tourists and locals.
