The UK has permanently banned a Chinese businessman, identified as H6, over security risks linked to his close ties with Prince Andrew.
Subsequently, a UK national security court dismissed H6’s appeal, citing his relationship with Prince Andrew as a potential avenue for political interference, the BBC reported.
Moreover, H6, whose full identity remains undisclosed, cultivated a significant relationship with Prince Andrew, triggering national security concerns. As a result, UK intelligence agencies launched an investigation, concluding that H6 aimed to leverage the Duke of York to influence political arenas in China’s favor.
In March 2023, H6 contested his UK ban by presenting his case to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. The then-Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, backed the exclusion, identifying H6 as a national security threat.
The court reviewed evidence indicating that H6 facilitated relationships that could enable the Chinese State to carry out political interference. Based on this evidence, the judges rejected H6’s appeal and upheld the UK’s decision to bar him from entering the country.
In November 2021, authorities stopped and questioned H6 at the UK border, uncovering concerning contents on his electronic devices. They found documents and a letter during the interrogation, revealing the depth of H6’s integration into UK affairs.
The items included a document addressed to Prince Andrew, which urged the urgent management of expectations and described the prince's "desperate situation." Authorities also discovered a letter from Dominic Hampshire, detailing the discreet movements of specific individuals in and out of a Windsor residence, suggesting covert operations.
These findings prompted officials to exclude H6, citing evidence of his involvement in covert activities for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). MI5, Britain’s domestic counter-intelligence and security agency, expressed deep concern about the potential for Chinese interference, a sentiment reinforced by the MI5 Director General at the time.
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the incident, while Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties in November 2019 due to his controversial association with Jeffrey Epstein.
This silence coincides with intense scrutiny of the prince's actions and his apparent vulnerability during this period of personal turmoil, which H6 allegedly exploited.
