Kobayashi, a 31-year-old from Haiku, Hawaii, went missing on her way to New York City after distressing interactions and odd texts raised concerns about her safety, New York Post reported.
Kobayashi began her journey optimistically, leaving Maui for Los Angeles on November 8, expecting a connection that would take her to her aunt in New York City. However, her excitement soon turned to trouble. Just 42 minutes after landing in Los Angeles, she missed her connecting flight, marking the first sign of problems.
Her family’s initial investigations confirmed her arrival in Los Angeles through airport surveillance footage. However, this footage did not show her boarding any subsequent flight to New York, and it remained the last confirmed sighting of Kobayashi at the airport.
In the days that followed, the mystery deepened. Video evidence confirmed that Kobayashi had been seen at a local event in Los Angeles on Saturday, but her phone activity stopped the following Monday. The last known ping from her phone came from LAX, and then there was silence.
Amid this uncertainty, alarming texts surfaced. Kobayashi texted a friend about a troubling encounter where someone she believed loved her deceived her into giving away all her funds. This devastating situation escalated as she mentioned that “deep hackers” had compromised her identity and stolen her finances.
