Amid the protracted legal tussle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Jon Voight, Jolie’s father, has made a public appeal for the cessation of their ongoing divorce proceedings for the welfare of their children.
Voight emphasizes that finalizing the divorce would bring needed stability to their children, urging both parties to settle their differences, Mail Online reported.
The eight-year saga began when Jolie and Pitt, whose marriage once captivated Hollywood, decided to part ways in 2016. Amidst the pursuits of individual happiness and posterior legal disputes, their separation has since splintered into a series of custody and financial battles. Notably, one of the significant assets caught in the crossfire is a vineyard both viewed as pivotal to their financial legacy.
Voight, aged 85, expressed his concerns in an interview with Fox News Digital where he sincerely highlighted the necessity of stability for their children. “You know, I think the kids need some stability. I love the kids, and I love my daughter. And I want Brad to step up to do, you know, what he has to do. End this nonsense,” Voight elaborated.
Aside from personal grievances, the vineyard in question has been a particular point of contention. Pitt has reportedly been keen on ensuring that the asset remains valuable not just for its current worth, but also for its potential long-term financial benefit to their children. A source close to Pitt told Page Six, “It’s important that people realize that Brad’s motivation is to ensure that his kids can maximize the benefit of this asset.” They further explained that any decision to sell it could diminish their inheritance significantly.
The divorce, revealed a source to People magazine, has been stretched out due to stubbornness on both sides. "All the bitterness is partly why the divorce has dragged on for so many years. Neither will let it go. You’d think they would be over it and just settle,” the source added. This prolonged state of limbo has kept both legal teams busy and the tabloids filled with continuous updates.
Amid the legal and financial battles, the impacts on their family have been profound. Shiloh, one of Jolie and Pitt’s six children, chose to legally remove "Pitt" from her surname upon turning 18 in May, hiring her own lawyer. This decision reflects the emotional toll of the prolonged divorce.
In 2021, Pitt was initially granted 50-50 custody, but this ruling was later overturned on appeal. Additionally, Pitt was required to undergo reunification therapy with his children to foster a healthy relationship. A directive also mandated that Jolie should not overhear Pitt’s conversations with their children, highlighting ongoing challenges in managing family interactions during the divorce.
A pivotal moment in their divorce was a 2016 private jet incident, where Jolie accused Pitt of physical assault. This accusation significantly impacted the public and personal narratives of their split and was a catalyst for their initial separation, leading to a complex legal battle with custody disputes and therapy requirements.
Despite these challenges, Jolie and Pitt were declared legally single in 2019, allowing them to move on personally. Pitt is now dating Ines de Ramon, marking a new chapter in his life, though their divorce details remain unresolved.
Despite the tumultuous relationship dynamics, Voight expressed pride in Jolie for encouraging their children. Speaking to TMZ, Voight said, “I’m proud of Angie because she tries to encourage each of the kids to be what they want to be.” This remark highlights the persistent familial bonds despite ongoing public disputes.
The struggles between Jolie and Pitt, along with Voight's public comments, portray a family navigating intense scrutiny and personal disagreements. Amid it all, the hope for resolution and peace remains, especially for their children's future.
